From my grandma’s kitchen in Argentina to your table in Sydney
Hi, I’m Pedro.
I moved to Australia over two years ago, and one of the things I miss the most about Argentina is my grandma’s empanadas.
Recently, I went back to visit my family in Argentina. Sitting with my grandma, she’s 85 years old now, trying to capture her recipes and watching her remember pieces of them, made me realise something important. Traditions don’t only live in written recipes. They live in stories, in hands, and in moments shared around food.
I knew then that I wanted to keep her traditions alive. Not just in my heart, but in the hands of my friends, and in the hands of people all over the world.

A family tradition worth sharing
I also spent time with my dad, who is one of the best cooks I know. He took those deep, classic Argentinian flavours and reimagined many of them as vegan and vegetarian recipes, a lifestyle he later embraced fully. The craft he carried throughout my childhood, and passed on to me, felt too important not to share.
My mum didn’t love cooking, but she loved food. She taught me curiosity. She showed me how powerful and diverse food can be across cultures. While visiting her in the U.S., she said something that stuck with me: empanadas are becoming the new tacos. And for Australia, empanadas should be the new pies.
That idea never left me.
Why Australia, why now
After many conversations with my partner, my friends, and my family, I decided to start this journey, to bring empanadas to where they deserve to be: in stores, at the front of our markets, and on tables across Australia.
We started with an online store because that’s how we believe we can scale thoughtfully. The success of brands like El Jannah has proven something important: Australians want diversity, Australians want new flavours on their plates, and Australia has always welcomed cuisines from around the world. That openness is what makes the food culture here so special.
What Argentum means
Argentum comes from the Latin word for silver, the same root as Argentina. A country known for hospitality, honest ingredients, and food that brings people together.
We started with four savoury flavours because protein matters. In Argentina, empanadas can be a starter, a main meal with a glass of wine, or an afternoon snack that carries you through to dinner. We want to bring that habit to Australia, showing how empanadas can be healthy, satisfying, and full of flavour in every single bite.
And a sweet ending or just a deliberate twist
Not everything at Argentum is about recreating the past exactly as it was.
While empanadas in Argentina are traditionally savoury, we wanted to explore what could happen when technique and intention meet creativity. That’s where our pistachio empanada comes in.
Inspired by Mediterranean flavours I grew up around, this dessert empanada brings together pistachio, ricotta, citrus, and sweetness in a way that feels thoughtful rather than indulgent. It’s not trying to imitate a classic. It’s a deliberate twist.
Lighter than you’d expect and never overly sweet, it’s designed to sit comfortably at the end of a meal or as something small to share with coffee. A modern expression, built with the same care as our savoury empanadas.
Our mission
This is about more than food.
It’s about preserving my grandma’s legacy.
Honouring my dad’s craft.
And sharing the warmth of Argentinian hospitality with anyone hungry for something real.
Premium. Authentic. Made with love.
That’s our story, and I’m incredibly proud to share it, and our empanadas, with you.
Enjoy.
Pedro
