Lunch in Neutral Bay: choose your Military Road stop.
Looking for lunch in Neutral Bay is easier when you first decide whether you want a quick takeaway, a proper sit-down meal or food to take home for later. Military Road has all three, but not every restaurant serves lunch every day. Here is a practical shortlist with real addresses and links to current menus. This guide is published by Argentum, so our own shop is included openly, not presented as an independent restaurant award or a first-hand review of our neighbours.

The Chef's Box
20 frozen empanadas across the five listed core flavours. For a later meal or a suitable self-bake setup, not immediate ready-to-eat service.
Explore The Chef's BoxChoose the kind of lunch before choosing the restaurant
A short work break and a weekend catch-up need different places. For a quick meal, check the current menu and ordering route before leaving the office. For a sit-down lunch, look at the restaurant's lunch days, not just its evening opening hours. If you are feeding colleagues, separate an individual shop order from a scheduled catering order.
The addresses below are on Military Road, but that does not make them interchangeable. Some are inside a shopping complex and some are street-front shops. Check the operator's location details before setting a meeting point. We have not invented walking times, guaranteed parking or current queue lengths.
Argentum: empanadas, milanesas and lunch to take away
Find Argentum at Shop 1/167 Military Road, Neutral Bay. The current shop menu separates ready-to-eat food from frozen products. It includes Argentinian empanadas, chicken and beef milanesas, sides and desserts. Choose the ready-to-eat option when lunch is for now; frozen packs are for cooking later, not a ready-to-eat takeaway substitute.
For a smaller lunch, compare the empanada fillings and choose what appeals. For a more substantial plate or sandwich, look at the milanesa options. The menu also lists rocket and parmesan, fries, sweet potatoes and a brownie with dulce de leche. Availability and prices belong on that live menu rather than being repeated in a guide that might outlast an update.
If you are ordering pickup online, follow the menu's ready-for-pickup notification rather than assuming that submitting an order means it is already prepared. Check the shop's current hours before travelling. For more about the location, see our Neutral Bay shop guide; for the dish itself, see milanesas in Neutral Bay.
Sam Thai: a Thai-food option in the Military Road precinct
Sam Thai lists its address as 21/166-174 Military Road and offers menu, takeaway and booking links. It is a different lunch format from an empanada or sandwich: useful to consider when the group wants Thai food and is choosing from one restaurant's menu. Review the actual menu for dishes and dietary questions.
Check the day before travelling. At the time of checking, its website listed lunch on several days but evening-only hours on Thursday. That is why a restaurant's general description of casual lunch is not enough to promise daily service. Use the operator's current hours and ordering page for the final decision.
Nikaido: put this one in the weekend column
Nikaido, at Shop 12/166-174 Military Road, explicitly lists lunch on Saturday and Sunday only. Its lunch page is worth checking if a Japanese yakiniku meal is the plan. Do not put it on a weekday work-lunch shortlist based on an evening restaurant listing.
For a group catch-up, review booking conditions and the current lunch menu with the restaurant. A weekend restaurant meal has a different pace from collecting food between meetings. Choose for the occasion rather than assuming that every Military Road food business is a substitute for every other one.
A quick comparison for the actual decision
| What you need | Where to look first | Check before leaving |
|---|---|---|
| Ready-to-eat Argentinian takeaway | Argentum's shop menu | Pickup readiness, hours and current items |
| Thai menu and takeaway options | Sam Thai | Lunch service on your day |
| Sushi or a Japanese set lunch | Komaru | Current lunch hours and menu |
| A weekend yakiniku lunch | Nikaido | Weekend lunch booking and seating conditions |
This is a format comparison, not a best-to-worst ranking. Food preferences, time available and dietary requirements matter more than a generic top-ten label. If a diner needs detailed allergen information, contact the chosen business rather than relying on the cuisine category or a photograph.
Ordering for colleagues is a separate decision
If three people want lunch now, a current shop menu may be the right place to start. If an office needs food for a meeting at a fixed time, agree the guest count, food format and receiving details before ordering. A shop's location nearby does not by itself confirm a large order or a delivery window.
Our Sydney catering page is the starting point for an Argentum group event. Share the date, venue or postcode, serving time and dietary counts. For a meeting without cooking equipment, read the office-without-a-kitchen guide. Do not choose a frozen box for an immediate office lunch unless someone has suitable equipment and preparation time.
Lunch now, a freezer meal later
A separate frozen order can be convenient when a shop visit also needs to solve another day's dinner. The Chef's Box contains 20 frozen empanadas across its five listed core flavours. That is a particular box combination, not a statement that Argentum's entire range has only five flavours. Browse all current empanadas for the wider selection.
Keep frozen purchases under appropriate temperature control, particularly if lunch is followed by errands. Use the cooking instructions for the exact flavour when you get home. For today's meal, return to the Neutral Bay menu and choose ready-to-eat food instead. Restaurant details in this guide were checked against the linked operator pages on 3 November 2026 and should be reconfirmed before a special trip.
