The film festivals

HSBC Spanish and Latin American Film Festival. The largest Spanish language film event in Australia, now in its 29th year. In 2026 the Sydney run is 18 June to 12 July at Palace Norton Street, Palace Moore Park and Palace Central, with more than thirty films from Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile and beyond. Argentina Film Cycle. The Argentinian Consulate in Sydney (Level 20, 44 Market Street) periodically co presents Argentinian film programming with the Instituto Cervantes. These are smaller, free or low cost screenings promoted via the Consulate Facebook page.

The community fiestas

Latinos en Sydney's Fiesta. The largest single day gathering of Latin American food trucks in the Inner West. In 2026 the event runs Saturday 20 June at 100 Marrickville Road with a live mariachi trio, an eight piece Latin band, food stalls, kids activities and free entry for children under four. Ritmo Latino Sydney. A larger scale ticketed Latin festival that has run in various Sydney venues. Format, date and venue change year to year; confirm on ritmolatinofest.com before booking flights or babysitters.

Latin American Independence Days in Sydney

Every South and Central American nation has an Independence Day, and Sydney's Latin restaurants and consulates typically mark them with dinners, dance nights and community lunches. Here is the calendar; specific 2026 events tend to be announced two to four weeks out on the relevant restaurant or consulate Facebook page.

Latin food markets and pop ups

Beyond festivals, a small but consistent set of weekend markets carry a Latin flag. The most reliable is Northside Produce Market in North Sydney (Miller Street), which runs on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. Argentum's stall is a fixture there, serving baked and fried empanadas (fried in beef tallow) alongside the pastel de choclo, alfajores and dulce de leche stands that make Northside the closest thing Sydney has to a monthly Latin food festival.
