The Classic is Argentum's three-cheese empanada with provolone, parmesan and mozzarella folded through slow-caramelised onion, made in Bondi Beach and delivered frozen across Sydney. The vegetarian flavour everyone reaches for. Bake from frozen at 190°C for 18 to 22 minutes.

Pack of twelve Classic empanadas. Three cheeses, one beautiful empanada. Provolone, parmesan and mozzarella folded with slow-caramelised onion. Vegetarian, comforting, always a crowd favourite.

Made in our Bondi Beach kitchen and frozen fresh to lock in flavour. Classic Argentinian half-moon shape with a zig-zag repulgue seal. No thawing needed.

How to bake:
Bake from frozen at 190°C for 18 to 22 minutes, until golden and the cheese is melted through.

Optional finish:
For extra colour and shine, lightly brush the empanadas with egg yolk before baking.

The empanada that converts sceptics. Three cheeses. No apologies.

The empanada nobody argues with

The Classic is what we put on the table when we are not sure who is eating. Vegetarians, cheese loyalists, kids, grandparents, anyone with a preference for something familiar and rich. Three cheeses give it the pull, the salt and the softness. The onion is caramelised slowly so it turns sweet and jammy, not sharp.

Every Argentinian family has a cheese and onion empanada in the rotation. Ours is the one Pedro's mother made, adjusted only for the cheeses we can source properly in Sydney.

What is inside

Provolone, parmesan and mozzarella, slow-caramelised onion, salt, folded in a soft wheat pastry. Fully vegetarian. Contains wheat gluten and dairy.

What to drink with it

Style Pick Why it works
Wine Mendoza Malbec (the surprising cheese and red combo) The dark fruit cuts the salt of the cheese cleanly.
Beer A crisp Sydney pilsner Keeps the palate light between bites.
Non-alcoholic Yerba mate, or sparkling water with lemon Cuts the richness of the cheese.
Sauce Pedro's Chimichurri (jar, sold separately) Herbs and vinegar wake up the cheese.

When to serve it

Occasion How to plate it
Dinner party starter Cut each empanada in halves, share as a warm entree.
Kids birthday Mild, cheesy, no strong flavours. Reliable win.
Weeknight dinner Three per person with a green salad and lemon.
Mixed-dietary catering The vegetarian anchor for any office order.

How many it feeds

Twelve empanadas feed 3 to 4 people as a full meal or 4 to 5 people as finger food. For larger vegetarian groups, look at the Chef's Box ($85) or the Weekly Family Box ($132).

Bake reminder

Straight from freezer to a preheated oven at 190°C for 18 to 22 minutes. The cheese should be visibly melted and just starting to pull when you break one open. Brush with egg yolk before baking for a deeper golden colour.

Frequently asked

Is it fully vegetarian?

Yes. No meat, no gelatine, no meat stock. Rennet in the cheese may not be plant-based, so it is not strictly suitable for lacto vegetarians who avoid animal rennet.

Is it vegan?

No, it contains dairy. For vegan, order the Patagonia.

Is it kid-friendly?

Very. Mild, cheesy, no chilli, no strong onion bite. This is the first empanada we suggest for kids.

Does it contain gluten?

Yes, wheat gluten in the pastry. Not suitable for coeliacs. Gluten-free is only available for large catering orders with a week's notice.

Can I refreeze after baking?

We do not recommend it. Best eaten the same day, or refrigerated and reheated once at 180°C for 6 to 8 minutes.

How long do they keep in the freezer?

Six months from delivery when kept at 18 degrees below zero or colder.

What cheeses are inside?

Provolone, parmesan and mozzarella. The blend gives you three textures: stretch, salt and creamy melt.

Started an asado with friends and decided to open with a few boxes from Argentum. Best decision we made. The Carnivore was the standout, everyone agreed.
Nicolas M. Carnivore
Ordered for a picnic with friends, the Carnivore is my favourite. Would highly recommend.
Lisa de Rooij Carnivore
I used to grab a pie from the bakery, but Argentum has completely replaced that for me. Lighter dough, premium fillings, baked not fried. Way more flavour.
