Habibi Yalla is Argentum's open-top Middle Eastern Argentinian empanada with minced beef, onion, tomato, lemon and parsley, visible filling, made in Bondi Beach and delivered frozen across Sydney. Bake from frozen at 190°C for 23 to 25 minutes.

Pack of twelve Habibi Yalla empanadas. A bold meeting point between Argentinian tradition and Middle Eastern soul. Juicy minced beef with onion, tomato, parsley and lemon. Rich, savoury, and gently tangy.

Made in our Bondi Beach kitchen and frozen fresh to lock in flavour. Open-top Arabian style, distinct from the classic half-moon shape. No thawing needed.

How to bake:
Bake from frozen at 190°C for 23 to 25 minutes, until golden and crisp.

Optional finish:
For extra colour and shine, lightly brush the empanadas with egg yolk before baking.

The modern twist on the Argentinian classic. A bit different. Always a talking point.

Two cultures, one empanada

Habibi Yalla is what happened when Pedro started cooking for the Lebanese and Syrian families who live around Bondi. It borrows the sfiha shape from Middle Eastern kitchens, an open-top square where the filling is visible, and fills it with a distinctly Argentinian minced beef, tomato, parsley and lemon mix. Not fusion for the sake of fusion. Just an honest nod to the neighbours.

Argentina has one of the largest Lebanese diasporas in the world. This empanada belongs to both places at once.

What is inside

Minced beef, onion, tomato, parsley, lemon, salt and black pepper, in an open-top wheat pastry. Contains wheat gluten. Dairy-free filling.

What to drink with it

Style Pick Why it works
Wine Chilled Riesling or an unoaked Chardonnay Bright acidity meets the lemon in the filling.
Beer Sydney lager or an Almaza style pilsner Light and dry, matches the parsley.
Non-alcoholic Mint tea, or gin and tonic with lemon (if that counts) Mint and lemon are the natural companions to the filling.
Sauce Pedro's Chimichurri, or a yoghurt and mint dip Both work. Chimichurri is more Argentina, yoghurt is more Levant.

When to serve it

Occasion How to plate it
Adventurous dinner party Three per person with tabbouleh, chilli oil and lemon wedges.
Ramadan iftar Halal available on catering request. Serve alongside dates and mint tea.
Summer party Full pack, bake to golden, serve as finger food with cold Riesling.
Mixed catering The talking point in any office box. Pair with the Carnivore and Classic.

How many it feeds

Twelve empanadas feed 3 to 4 people as a full meal or 4 to 5 people as finger food. For larger orders, look at the Chef's Box ($85) or a full catering order.

Bake reminder

Straight from freezer to a preheated oven at 190°C for 23 to 25 minutes. The open top means these need slightly longer than the closed half-moon empanadas. Brush with egg yolk before baking for a deeper golden edge.

Five stars, again and again.

Started an asado with friends and decided to open with a few boxes from Argentum. Best decision we made. The Carnivore was the standout, everyone agreed.

Ordered for a picnic with friends, the Carnivore is my favourite. Would highly recommend.
Lisa de Rooij Carnivore
I used to grab a pie from the bakery, but Argentum has completely replaced that for me. Lighter dough, premium fillings, baked not fried. Way more flavour.
